Biography This band started life in Rotherham around 2005 and evolved from its folk/country/indie roots to create a body of work which can be best described as an eclectic mix of guitar-driven, rock with true pop sensibilities. The band line up is: - Pete Sheldon Guitars, Vocals Andy Hartley Bass, Vocals Ian Higginbottom Guitars, Vocals Chris Cooper – Percussion Keith Lund – Drums, Percussion After years of individual struggle in numerous bands the five band members now have the freedom and perfect vehicle to create the music they've always wanted. Originally put together in Rotherham by Pete, Andy and Chris as a vehicle to perform their individual collections of songs it soon became apparent that the fruits of their labour had legs. After a few false starts and the usual peaks and troughs the current line up was cemented and the band sound and song quality has progressively moved onward and upward. The band will admit they're no spring chickens but the worldliness and maturity within means these songs could never be written by people who hadn't had the life experiences these guys have had. Remember, you can have depth in a pop song! The Sylvias play a well observed mix of 70's, 80's and 90's pop/rock that echoes American acts such as Big Star, Gigolo Aunts and the Gin Blossoms, UK bands such as Teenage Fanclub and Be-bop Deluxe and takes in newer influences along the way. Melody is king here and whether it's a dumb as you like rocker or a jangle pop ballad you're never more than a few seconds away from a tasty hook. Classic guitar music with power and subtlety married to thoughtful lyrics with no pretentions. This is the trademark. Years of gigging, playing all forms of music and constantly honing the art of songwriting is now starting to pay dividends and the band have now defined the Sylvia's sound. Whilst many bands will claim to have the ultimate in originality (which, let's face it, doesn't exist!) the members of Searching For Sylvia are the true sum of their parts. You'll hear influences across a wide spectrum of music and put together in a way that shows that this band are firstly music fans and not led by trend or burning desire to follow a blueprint. The songs become what they should be, honest and downright catchy which people of all ages and tastes seem to enjoy both live and in recorded form. The first EP released in May 2011, recorded with Steve Ellis at Orion Studios in Rotherham, will be followed in 2014 by the 1st full album. If you need your rock with a melodic overcoat or your pop with a ballsy edge you owe it to yourselves to get acquainted with Sylvia. Searching For Sylvia
